“This release of TopBraid delivers our most comprehensive data governance solution to date,” said Irene Polikoff, CEO and co-founder of TopQuadrant. “It provides the scope of support for integrated data governance connecting business, technical and operational assets that are driven by market demands and has already proved its value in the early use of TopBraid Enterprise Data Governance (or EDG) by key customers, including two major financial services organizations.
Too often data governance solutions are limited in scope and can’t connect all of your data sources. They use standalone tools that create yet another data or metadata silo. TopBraid EDG uses a non-proprietary, graph-standards-based, model-driven approach to capturing the meaning of data, which we call semantic information management. This approach is flexible and interoperable and can adapt to changes in the data, metadata and business needs of the organization.”
TopBraid EDG provides users with an agile solution to govern and connect a broad set of critical business assets. Recognizing that organizations may require different starting points, TopQuadrant allows users to take an incremental approach by offering packages. Users have the flexibility to start with any of the following packages and grow as needed:
- Business Glossaries
- Reference Data Management
- Vocabulary Management
- Basic Metadata Management
- Advanced Metadata Management

In addition to TopBraid EDG, this release offers a number of key enhancements to TopBraid Enterprise Vocabulary Net (EVN), including improved navigation and visualization of data. EVN will remain a standalone product for users interested only in managing taxonomies and ontologies and using them for content classification and search enhancement. Alternatively, users with broader governance goals that span structured and unstructured data can use the same vocabulary management capabilities of EVN as a package under EDG and combine it with other EDG packages. Other 5.2 enhancements include:
- Additional graph database (triple store) options, including Apache Jena TDB and
- User interface enhancements to allow for a more consistent, intuitive user experience.
- Support for defining data validity rules using the emerging SHACL (RDF Data Shapes) standard is now available in EVN and EDG.
MarkLogic databases.
