“Linking and exchanging vocabularies, metadata, and the data that utilize them is comfortably facilitated with semantic models (based on uniform standards all data adheres to regardless of structure) and hierarchies of classifications of terms referred to as taxonomies. ‘I’ve done some work in the life sciences and they have huge taxonomies of chemicals and substances,’ TopQuadrant Managing Director David Price reflected. ‘If they’re involved in agriculture, for example, there will be all kinds of taxonomies for plants and things like that. They have data stewards who are responsible for ensuring that class libraries and the taxonomies they use are accurate and complete.’”
